Seeds of Civilization - Weekly Newsletter/Devlog 2


Heya, BlackHawk here, can you believe it has been one week already? Anyway, here is the second devlog, as promised, today we will be talking about the new roguelite system, showcase Samantha's and Kawy's sprites, as well as discuss next week's plans so you guys can know what to expect for the next devlog (which is how I will be naming these from now on, newsletters don't fully fit the description of what we're discussing in these)

Changes to the SoC Page

The main page for Seeds of Civilization has already receive some changes, mainly to better give credit to the people that have contributed to the project, this will probably be changed again on the next couple weeks to better describe the game as well.

New Sprites

As of right now we have two sprites done, Kawy and Samantha, if you have played the demo you probably saw Kawy's old sprite (the one drawn by me), that one was alright but I knew it could be better, and Z Dragon did an amazing job on it, she also made Samantha's sprite which looks just as good, she will be your first breeding partner, without further ado, here are the sprites:



The New Roguelite System

Here's what most of you have probably been waiting for, the new roguelite system, it still needs some more polish (mainly an actual UI and proper non-test items but that is easily solvable throughout the next week) but overall what has been implemented works great, if you have played Brutal Orchestra before (and if you haven't, then what are you doing in this devlog? Go play it right now) it will work very similarly to it, where you get three encounter options, choose one, and then another one is chosen to fit into the spot of the previously selected encounter, rinse and repeat until you beat the boss and advance to next area, collect items to upgrade your build, collect resources to upgrade your breeding partners, and use that offspring to upgrade your stats.

Next Week's Plans

For the next week I will be mainly focusing on polish, adding a proper UI and items to the roguelite, and implementing breeding partners alongside the meta progression, we'll also see about getting to work on Samantha's first sex animation, and if not at the very least a new sprite for the boss of the first area, if I have time I will also get to work on backgrounds for the colony and forest area, do I think we will be able to get a second area going before this month ends? Most likely not, maybe some early work but nothing substantial enough to be in the release.
